call for submissions: art fight

Institute Parachute is looking for participants for a series of Art Fight parties to commence this spring.

In the Art Fight competition, each artist will work in the same mixed-use space at a frenzied competitive pace for 12 hours. As the day progresses the initial relaxed studio/gallery atmosphere will be replaced by a full-blown party. Music, dancing and celebrating will swirl around the artists and their in-progress projects.

At the stroke of midnight, the works will be complete and the panel of distinguished celebrity judges will make their pronouncements.

The first Art Fight is to take place in June, and applicants interested in participating on that occasion should submit before May 15th 2008. For more information contact admin[at]instituteparachute.ca or call 885-6642.

young entrepreneur awards 2008

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is looking for entrepreneurs between the ages of 19 and 35 for its Young Entrepreneur Awards (YEA) contest. This will be the 21st consecutive year of the Awards, which highlight the success of young Canadian entrepreneurs and recognize their innovative spirit and business acumen. There is one winning business per province and territory, for a total of 13 awards.

Deadline to apply is Friday May 30th, 2008.

youth summit on sustainable urban transportation

Youth from across Canada will come together in Vancouver, for the Youth Summit on Sustainable Transportation. The goal of the summit is to discuss and discover the role of sustainable transportation as the solution to urban sustainability, while building leadership skills through action on sustainable transportation initiatives.

Applications must be submitted electronically no later than May 11th, 2008. Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 25 years old.

TakingITGlobal (TIG) is an international organization, led by youth,and empowered by technology. TIG brings together young people (aged 13-31) in over 200 countries and territories within international networks to connect to opportunities, and collaborate on concrete projects – addressing global problems and creating positive change.

Creating Local Connections Canada (CLC Canada) is a collaborative three-year program of TIG that promotes and supports youth participation in Canada. The program aims to inspire, inform and involve youth as engaged participants in Canadian society through awareness and access, collaboration and communication, and capacity building initiatives.

They are currently recruiting for the Alberta Youth Engagement Coordinator. The application deadline is April 28th. See below for full information on the position and organization.
